This blog

is a display of some of my oil paintings and drawings over the last two and a half years.
To view things in the order of their completion start at the bottom and work up. The paintings on the first page were all done in 2011 and all feature skulls. A skull offers the artist a portrait subject, a still life subject and even elements of a landscape--endless fascination.

Two Dantes, 2009
36" x 12"

Dante went to Mexico with his parents for a two-week visit with his other grandparents in Cabo del San Jose. While he was gone I babysat his fighting fish Murray. The light was coming through the window and through the fish bowl. Dante appears as a pirate under the table and again, peeking at us at the top to balance the composition.  I was trying to get a serpentine path of light from the bottom of the canvas to the top.
